Speaker of the House Mark Eves has appointed Rep. Barry Hobbins and Rep. Justin Chenette, both Saco Democrats, to committees for the National Conference of State Legislatures. Both representatives will serve on the Committee on Law, Criminal Justice and Public Safety, and Hobbins was also named to the Legislative Effectiveness Committee. “It is an honor and privilege to be recognized for my long legislative history and experience,” said Hobbins, who is chairman the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee. “I am looking forward to attending the conference this summer and working with my colleagues from around the country.”
National Conference of State Legislatures is an organization that serves the interests of state legislatures by providing states support, ideas, and connections for policy and effectiveness. It operates standing committees that educate Congress and federal agencies about state concerns and serve as forums for state legislators and legislative staff to learn about and share information regarding programs and initiatives in other states. “I am passionate about the work that we do in the Legislature’s Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee,” Chenette said. “Serving on the national committee will be a great opportunity to gain insight into some of the issues faced around the country. I am excited to work with other state legislators to bring the best ideas back to Maine.”
