JT: Pressure builds for York County GOP chairman to resign

YORK COUNTY — The number of area Republicans calling for York County Republican Committee Chairman Jim Booth to resign in the wake of an offensive email are increasing – but it is unclear what, if any, repercussions will actually take place.

Last week, Booth sent an email to area Republicans urging someone to step forward and run against state Rep. Justin Chenette, D-Saco, for Senate District 31. In the email, Booth twice referred to Chenette, who is openly gay, as “Little Justine.”

York County Republican Committee Vice Chairman Ed Karytko of Kennebunk said there is a previously scheduled executive committee meeting Wednesday, and the matter might come up for discussion then. He said the protocol for handling a matter like this is unclear.

“As of right now, we don’t know what will happen,” he said.

Chenette is state representative for District 15, which includes part of Saco. Senate District 31 covers Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Hollis, Limington and part of Buxton.

Calling out hate with compassion

It was Martin Luther King, Jr. who said it best, “I have decided to stick with love, hate is too great a burden to bear”.

I’m not necessarily angry, I’m just disappointed; disappointed in the York County Republican Chair as someone myself who has a family of Republicans. As you might have seen in the news, the chair of the York County Republican Committee made disparaging and hateful remarks about me personally in an email sent out to recruit a candidate to challenge me this fall.

PPH: York County Republican leader criticized for email denigrating gay lawmaker

Democrats and Republicans criticized the head of the Republican Party in York County on Thursday for an email that they say denigrates an openly gay lawmaker as part of an effort to recruit a candidate to run against him.

An email bearing the name of York County Republican Committee Chairman Jim Booth refers to Rep. Justin Chenette, D-Saco, as “Little Justine” on two separate occasions. The email then states “there is a lot of HATE” for Chenette and urges someone to step forward to challenge the Democrat in the Senate District 31 race. It was unclear Thursday how widely the email – addressed to “Dear Fellow Republicans” – was circulated.

Statement on Bernie Sanders endorsing Hillary Clinton

7/12/2016

Today Bernie Sanders endorsed Hillary Clinton.

As someone who just went through a contested Primary Election of my own, it’s never easy to go head to head against someone that is of the same party. Oftentimes it gets personal. Luckily in my case we kept it civil and positive, but to see two individuals who collectively have contributed so much to our country in one form or another coming together for a greater purpose, it truly represents the best in a political system that i
s usually wrought with challenges.
I endorsed Bernie in the campaign and spoke on his behalf during the Maine caucus process. Bernie brought a lot of robust debate within the party and across our country. Issues like campaign finance reform, limiting the influence of corporate lobbyists on public policy decision making have been brought to the forefront FINALLY. It takes real leadership to take those issues head on and challenge the status quo interests.
Young people registered to vote in record numbers and have been engaged in a political process that often ignores or isn’t willing to give much thought to the next generation. Thank you Bernie for running for President and trying to make things better.

Lots of work ahead, but we must stop to appreciate the movement that has been created as we come together for the betterment of the country. Now is the time to focus on every race, large or small, up and down the ticket, to create the kind of change we’d like see.

SACO/OOB - A federation of nearly 42,000 Maine workers has endorsed State Rep. Justin Chenette for State Senate in District 31 which includes Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Hollis, Limington, and part of Buxton.

The Maine AFL-CIO, representing 160 local unions, has been helping improve the lives of working families in Maine since 1956.

"I'm proud of my strong record of fighting for Maine workers so that everyone has an opportunity for economic justice," says Chenette. "We must ensure those working hardest to make ends meet have an even playing field in achieving the American Dream."

In his 4 years in the Maine House of Representatives, Chenette has introduced legislation aiming to provide workers a living wage and give greater protections for individuals in the workplace.

The election will be held on Tuesday November 8th.
