End Citizens United Action Fund Endorses Sen. Chenette’s Bill to Ban Lobbyist Contributions

End Citizens United Action Fund today endorsed Maine State Senator Justin Chenette’s (D-Saco) bill that would ban lobbyist contributions to the Governor or members of the Maine State Legislature if the lobbyist doesn’t live in the legislator’s district. The bill was approved by the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee and faces a vote in the Senate in the coming weeks.

“Mainers’ faith in state and local government is eroding because of the undue influence and access that lobbyists have over Augusta,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United Action Fund. “This bill would end the pay-to-play system, so that government works for Maine families -- not just the special interests with the biggest checks. We’re proud to endorse Senator Chenette’s bill and we'll fight to have it signed into law.”

End Citizens United Action Fund, an arm of the grassroots campaign finance reform group, is dedicated to harnessing the power of its four million members to pass reforms at the federal and state levels. As part of its work, ECU Action Fund will encourage ECU members to call their elected officials, host petition drives, conduct letter to the editor campaigns, as well as join coalitions of other grassroots advocacy groups.
