AUGUSTA — Sen. Justin Chenette, D-Saco, has submitted a bill aimed at addressing the lack of consistency when it comes to cursive writing education in schools across the state. LR 2659, An Act to Include Cursive Writing in High School Graduation Standards, would do just that, ensure that by the time a student graduates from high school, the students would have to prove some familiarity with cursive writing. “Technology is a great asset for education, but nothing replaces the need to know how to sign your name on checks and important documents,” said Sen. Chenette.” “I’m concerned that we will have an entire generation who can work an iPad, but will not be able to do something as simple as physically writing something down.”

AUGUSTA — Sen. Justin Chenette, D-Saco, has received a 100 percent rating on the Maine AFL-CIO’s legislative scorecard for the first session of the 128th Legislature.
“Fighting for working families is the cornerstone of my legislative service,” said Sen. Chenette. “Whether it’s protecting the voter-approved minimum wage referendum, or rejecting harmful ‘right to work for less’ laws, I will always put Maine workers first.” |
