Whose feelin’ the bern?

Can I first say that whoever our nominee is, we have the most qualified, compassionate, and issue-driven leaders compared to the clown car on the other side!

You could say I’m someone that has found Bernie later in the process. I was someone who supported Sec. Clinton back in 2008 and have admired her tenacity and commitment to this country no matter what has been thrown at her over the years. She is fearless!

That being said, as a state legislator, I’ve see firsthand how we have a system rigged against us; a system of completely legalized bribery. I’ve fought the special interests and won, to pass legislation to ban clean elections candidates for example from running PACs. But while state legislators continue to find ways of taking money from the very industries they are supposed to be regulating through PACs, the problem is 10 fold on the national level.

Bernie hasn’t only talked the talk, but he’s walked the walk; distancing himself from super pacs, calling out lobbyist and Wall Street contributions, and relies on small individual donations not rich corporate pockets. I admire that. It’s not an easy feat in a post-Citizens United era.

While this might not seem like the #1 issue around your dinner table, until we fix our broken campaign finance system, we will never be able to break through the noise and really tackle the systemic issues we face as a nation.

When our government is held hostage by the highest bidding lobbyist or special interest group, the American people lose; we lose.

Bernie has flipped the issue on its head, and has taken a bold stand like he has on other issues, to have a government of the people, by the people, for the people.

I like my candidates like I like my coffee…BOLD. Bernie is bold.

He is bold on college affordability.

He is bold on climate change.

He is a bold on income inequality.

He is a bold leader.

My 6th grade English teacher left me with a quote that has stuck by me:
“Reach for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Bernie’s platform is like that quote. Yes he reaches high, but why not? Why not try for a stronger more progressive future for this country? Even if we come up a little short and get half of what we really want, isn’t it worth it?

I think so. Together we can have a bright future to believe in. Let’s caucus for the next President of the United States…BERNIE SANDERS!
